Microsoft you rock!

I spoke too soon, I am now playing AVI files on my XBOX 360 MCX natively ! Even the Fast Forward is working on all 3 increments, which wasn't working properly in Media Center on my PC.

I had to reinstall the Optional Media Update, I had aleady installed on the XBOX 360 dashboard ages ago you remember that MP4 dashboard update that one. I guess there's something new in the update or the Windows 7 back-end just makes it work now!

Whatever I'm very happy now MS you rock!

Thank you! [:D]

Everyone with an XBOX 360 MCX needs to read this!

I'm confused, do we have native support in Windows 7 for DIVX/XVID in Media Center on the XBOX 360 Media Center Extender ?

I've just tried it and well you need to go here to read about it.

For those of you already running Windows 7 Build 7000 Beta1 please let me know what happens on your XBOX 360 MCX when trying to play an AVI movie?

Thanks

XBOX 360 Codec Support Petition

I'm not normally down with petitions but I think this one should be looked at and signed if you agree. So sign it already !!! These people have signed already

Petition HERE

MolsonFLMCE on the Green Button has started the petition, below is what he had to say:

"Ok, so the petition is online and available here. I'm not the most eloquent writer in the world but I think I've covered the core issue. If you agree with what I've said, I encourage you to sign it. If you don't like what I said but agree with the petition itself, please consider signing it and leave a comment as to how you would re-word things. 16,000+ views on this thread. I doubt the petition will get numbers that high but I intend to blog it today as well as post it on the Xbox boards in the correct board.

Thanks for your support."

No XBOX 360 Spring Update this year?

In an interview with general manager of Xbox Live Marc Whitten, Next-Gen gets all the first details on big changes to the service—including that there will be no spring dashboard update, and that underperforming XBLA titles will be removed.
According to Whitten, XBLA titles that have been out for more than six months, have a Metacritic score of less than 65%, and have a conversion rate of less than 6% will be eligible for desliting. Microsoft will give three months of notice before these titles are removed. Whitten also told us that there would be no spring dashboard update for Xbox 360 owners this year, saying that resources were instead focused on “building the proper infrastructure and scale for the service.” There will however be a change to DRM policy and a tool released next month that will allow 360 owners to re-license content to a single console—finally fixing the issue that forced gamers playing XBLA games to be connected to Xbox LIVE if their 360 broke down and was replaced.

Read on for the complete Q and A, which provides all the details on this news and more, including a new 1st party development studio and why the DRM issue took so long to resolve…

Silence your XBOX 360

Here's a mod to silence your XBOX 360 with a new replacement fan.

"It seems like Microsoft , in designing the Xbox 360 , set out to create the loudest game console ever built by mankind—and we wouldn't be surprised if it succeeded. When you turn on a 360 and its rear fans start to spin, it sounds like a Cessna revving up for takeoff. Then the DVD drive kicks in and the Cessna transforms into a full blown 747.

Jason Cross attempted to silence, or at least quiet down, an Xbox 360 some time ago. Since then, ready-made mods have appeared to help with noise. We're talking about the Talismoon Whisper Fan for the 360, made to spec to replace the 360's stock, noisy dual-fan unit."

Want to play MP4 movies via the XBOX 360 dashboard streamed from WMP11?

In my quest to find a solution to stream movies from my VMC PC to my XBOX 360 dashboard, this was before the release of the fall update that added support of the DIVX codecs to playback AVI's and before I was able to Transcode successfully in real time using Transcode 360, one solution I discovered was to add file support in to WMP11 / VMC for MP4 files.

After running a registry hack and then adding a watch folder in to WMP11 to point to my MP4 movies and enabling WMP11 media sharing with my XBOX 360, this then allowed for the playback of those MP4 movies via the media blade in the XBOX 360 dashboard.

After trying many registry hacks this is the only one that fully works and not only enables the MP4 files to be visible but for them to be played back in the XBOX 360 dashboard.

If you also want to add support for other file formats as well, such as M4V / M4A or you have a 64bit system please visit this page. The author there is the source of the MP4 registry hack I used on my own Vista 32bit system which can be downloaded from me here.

You will also need the right codecs installed on your PC, I would recommend Fddshow Tryouts and the Haali Splitter or just the K-Lite Full Codec Pack.

Disclaimer: Use at your own risk and ensure you have a full backup of your registry before applying the reg file. This is a hack for Vista 32bit and has not been tested on MCE 2005.
