ngRC Version 2 well in development

One of my favourite applications for Media Center ngRC (Next Generation Remote Control) Version 2 is currently under development by Oliver Schulze. You can find his home page here.

From what I've heard it sounds like version 2 is nearly a complete re-write from version 1 and the news sounds very promising indeed.
You can use this application to control your Vista Media Center PC and your Extenders using the web based program and because it's web based you can run it on your Sony PSP or Apple iPhone / iTouch, which are the main devices the application is designed for.

Check out the news items to keep up to date on the progress, but I think a beta release can be expect pretty soon.

mControl Home Automation on iPhone / iTouch

Chris Lanier posted details about the mControl Home Automation UI being enabled to run on Apple's iPhone / iTouch.

I haven't gotten in to home automation myself as yet, but I plan to at some point in the future and mControl seems to be the most reasonably priced solution for media center and DIY enthusiasts.

Control Windows Media Center Music via PSP / iTouch / iPhone

ngRC - next generation Remote Control

This is a great little program for media center that allows you to control and queue up your music on Windows Media Center using a hand held device such as a Sony PSP or Apple iTouch/iPhone.
I've tried this out on my own system and it works pretty well on my PSP definitely a good way to sit in the garden and control what's playing on your Media Center PC without needing to be in front of the monitor or TV screen!

What are the main features?

  • MediaCenter-like Skin on your mobile device
  • Lets you browse through your music library, play music, etc.. without the need to switch on your TV
  • Lets you remote control you Media-Center (every function that are on your normal IR-Remote Control are now within your mobile device)
  • Now you have a WiFi-Remote Control
  • Extender Support (lets you switch between your different extenders, with only one Remote-Control)
  • Control your music in any room
  • Multiple Skin-Support
  • OpenSource Software

Just download and try: www.sourceforge.net/projects/ngrc
